Chokecherry Tea

This recipe can be made with fresh, or dried chokecherries. We use the dried chokecherry method. First, dry the chokecherries whole in a dehydrator, then crush into small granules. Take 1 tablespoon of chokecherry granules and put them in an empty tea bag. Alternatively, you can just use 1 tablespoon of the chokecherry granules without the tea bag. This is enough for a 12oz cup of tea.

Ingredients:

1. 1 ½ cups of water

2. 1 teabag or 1 tablespoon of loose chokecherry granules

3. Honey, maple syrup or sugar to taste

Pour the water into a small saucepan and put on medium heat until it boils. Add your teabag or 1 tablespoon of chokecherry granules. Turn down the heat and let it simmer for 5 minutes until the tea turns a dark, purple-maroon color. If you would like stronger tea, you can let it simmer for another 5 minutes. Remove the teabag, pour into your coffee cup, and add your preferred sweetener. If you use the loose chokecherry granules, you will need to pour the tea through a small strainer. Enjoy!
